WPL is the first edition of the Women’s Premier League in India, Tata is the sponsor for the WPL 2023, league is scheduled from 4th March 2023 to 26th March 2022. All the matches will be played in Mumbai, If the season has succeeded more teams will be played from the next edition, currently there are five teams will be participating in WPL. Mithali Raj (former captain of the India women’s national cricket team) is the mentor for Gujarat Giants, Jhulan Goswami(Indian former cricketer) is the bowling coach and mentor for Mumbai Indians and Sania Mirza (tennis player) is the mentor for Royal Challenger Bangalore women team.
The first round of auction was held on 13th February 2023 in Mumbai, approx 1500 players registered for the same, All franchisee has a budget of 12 crore each, to purchase 16 to 18 players, with 6 overseas players.
Viacom 18 is the broadcaster and has the TV rights for the WPL tournament, The first season of the league will be broadcast in India on Sports 18 channel.
